...and found this. Actually, my FIL found it. He asked, “Hey, can you tell me what this car is?” It’s in a collapsing garage not far from their house. I kind of want to contact the owners of the house and make an offer.

Uh, guys, that’s an AMX badge on the c-pillar, so it’s not an SST...

2-seater, as well. I want it.

I was agreeing with his assessment of the 1970 year. I know it’s an AMX.

I didn’t intend that reply to be snarky. I’ve always loved AMXs as well. I could come up with the scratch to buy the car as it sits, but getting it out is another story altogether. There are 2 derelict vehicles blocking the garage door, then there’s the door itself. I know that door hasn’t been opened in 15+ years.

Didnt take it as such!

I had a 74 javelin AMX. Omfg that car was awesomely evil.

I don’t want to be Mr. Practical buuuuut, it would be cheaper to buy a near restored or completed car then buy and restore this one. If finished it is worth 20k... that’s not a lot. A good paint job will eat up a good chunk of that value.

That’s where I am. Hagerty says a concours-condition ‘70 AMX 390 w/ 4 spd is worth somewhere near $70k. Cost to get it there? More than $70k I’m sure. I can afford to buy the car, but the cost to pull it out of it’s resting place and restore it is way more than I’ve got.

It was a pure monster. built 401 with the lumpiest cam i’ve ever had, with only a pair of glass pack mufflers. I set off more car alarms with this thing than godzilla. it had enough torque to make tracks if you floored it at 55 mph.

Unless you do a lot of the work yourself it would be a hobby not a good business decision. The paint for my Camaro was 17k. It is a near flawless Orange with very little bondo and lead used when any larger parts needed fixing.

As long as you repair the body work, you could always forget about the paint and Reidus and Cletus-style leave the patina alone?
